Kapil Dev with Sunil Gavaskar Former Indian World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev will be conferred with the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award announced BCCI via its twitter handle @BCCI. The Col. C. K. Nayudu Award is the highest-revered award for captaincy and lifetime achievement in Indian cricket. The award committee, comprising BCCI president N. Srinivasan, Patel, and senior journalist Ayaz Memon, in a meeting here earlier in the day, unanimously nominated Kapil for the honour. The award includes a trophy, a citation, and a cheque for Rs. 25 lakh, and will be presented at the BCCI awards ceremony for the year 2012-13.
BCCI’s Col C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award Committee, comprising Mr N Srinivasan, President, BCCI, Mr Sanjay Patel, Hony Secretary, BCCI and Mr Ayaz Memon, Senior Journalist, met in Chennai to pick the recepient earlier today. The decision to nominate Kapil for the award was unanimous, a BCCI communique said. Kapil, who is considered as one of the greatest cricketers was the first player to complete the ‘double’ of 5,000 runs and 400 wickets in Tests. In an illustrious career that commenced in 1978 and concluded in 1994, he represented India in 131 Tests, from which he took 434 wickets. He also scored 5,248 runs, inclusive of eight centuries. He played 225 ODIs, in which he took 253 wickets and scored 3,783 runs, the communique said. “I was busy in a very important meeting. I was informed about this honour by a friend and later, a BCCI official spoke to me,” he added. It is learnt that batting legend Sunil Gavaskar called and text messaged him from SA to offer his congratulations.
