Queen Latifah to Receive 2014 Matrix Award

Popular singer and actress Queen Latifah is going to be honored by the New York Women in Communications this coming April with the 2014 Matrix Award. The banquet will be held at the Waldorf Astoria.

According to a report from Z News, Latifah will be honored on April 28 along with eight others.                                    106 & Park

Latifah, whose eponymous talk show will return for Season 2, will be honored April 28 at the Waldorf Astori , along with eight others. “Queen Latifah Receive was chosen not only for what she has done, but also for what she has given back, as her work and career are an inspiration to all women who are trying to change the world for the better,” says the organization.

Past Matrix winners include Meryl Streep, Tina Fey, Robin Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres, Martha Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg and Meredith Vieira.

The annual prizegiving celebrates women in the communications industry, including TV, film, and media. The ceremony will be held at the Waldorf Astoria hotel on 28 April (14).

Queen Latifah proved her global box office appeal as a leading lady opposite Steve Martin in Disney’s hit Bringing Down the House, which she executive produced. She also starred in Hairspray, The Secret Life of Bees, Last Holiday, Beauty Shop, and Joyful Noise as well as the HBO true-life drama, Life Support, which she also executive produced and for which she received a Golden Globe award, a SAG Award and an Emmy nomination. She also reprises her animated role as “Ellie,” the wooly mammoth in Ice Age 4.

Latifah has enjoyed a stellar 12 months following the successful launch of her daily talk show, which has been picked up for a second season.
